Bottom leakage is especially annoying because the fault is not always obvious. The jar may look perfectly normal from the outside. The lid may fit tightly. The steel body may have no visible crack. Yet a few seconds after switching on the mixer, chutney begins dripping towards the coupler.

Before replacing the entire jar, it helps to understand the likely causes. Some faults involve inexpensive seals, while others point to worn blade assemblies that deserve professional attention. Here are ten possibilities worth checking.

1. The Blade-Shaft Oil Seal Has Worn Out

Over time, heat, friction and repeated washing can harden the seal. Acidic ingredients such as tomato, tamarind and lemon may also contribute to gradual deterioration. Once the seal loses flexibility, thin chutneys can find their way through surprisingly small gaps.

The easiest clue is where the liquid appears. If moisture gathers around the centre of the jar's underside, close to the blade shaft or coupler, the oil seal deserves attention.

Another useful test is to pour a small amount of plain water into the jar while it remains off the mixer. Leave it on a dry plate for a few minutes. Water appearing directly beneath the blade assembly suggests a sealing problem.

8. Overfilling Is Forcing Liquid Through A Weak Seal

Not every leaking jar has suffered a major mechanical failure. Sometimes breakfast ambition simply exceeds jar capacity.

Chutney jars are small for a reason. Filling one almost to the brim with coriander, tomato, water and coconut leaves little room for ingredients to circulate. Once the blade starts spinning, pressure and splashing increase dramatically.
